The AT20-600-01 (pictured) is driven by a Two-Phase Stepper Motor features a repeatability of 5 microns, positional accuracy of 20 microns and has a knob on the motor for manual adjustment. The compact linear encoder module measures just 51.5 mm (2.027 in.) long by 5.99 mm (0.236 in.) wide by 0.8 mm (0.073 in.) high. This high, 1.25 micron resolution, low power encoder module features TTL Quadrature Outputs and requires only a single +3.3 or +5 VDC supply.
The LS-00125U-01 Linear Scale supplied is only 6 mm (0.24 in.) wide by 0.3 (0.01 in.) high and would be attached to a flat surface using PSA adhesive. The standard scale length is 76.2 mm (3.00 in.) long. The linear scale is available with lengths up to 610.0 mm (24.00 in.). The quadrature signals are output differentially. The module also features a TTL level HOME output.

The Problem –
An LM76 customer is a manufacturer of loading dock ramps. These systems are installed in every state and experience all climates and conditions. Each dock section employs a 1″ shaft and linear bearings for length adjustment. Delivery trucks are side-loaded so the platform is adjusted outward to meet the truck body so loaders/unloaders have a safe walkway between building and truck. If the ramp cannot be properly adjusted because its rusted, frozen solid, gaps between the loading dock and the truck body become fall-through hazards for workers.
