<\/a>\nMotion Control – Van Nuys, CA \u2013 Magnetic Sensor Systems (MSS) Has released the Pick and Hold SDM950 Power Solenoid Driver Module. This \u201cMade in America,\u201d compact, PWM driver module measuring just 2.950 in. x 3.000 in. is designed to consume less energy by first applying the voltage for a pre-determined period of time (Pick Time) necessary to activate the solenoid and then when the plunger is seated, drop the voltage (Holding Voltage) to a level sufficient to hold the solenoid in the seated position conserving energy and extending the life of a solenoid by avoiding overheating the solenoid\u2019s coil. <\/span><\/p>\n
This also allows the use of smaller solenoids. Initially a large force for a long stroke may require a higher voltage to provide the necessary force to pull the plunger in, but can then be lowered to hold the plunger in place.<\/span><\/p>\n Designed to operate with a supply voltage of 9 to 50 VDC at a peak current of 15A, the motion control SDM950 Solenoid Driver Module has a Command or Trigger Voltage of 2.5 VDC. Having a Trigger is especially useful when using solenoids requiring higher voltages and the command voltage is lower such as a TTL signal. A Pick Time of 5 to 2,000 msec can be set by the user via an on-board potentiometer. The factory setting for the holding voltage drops to 30 percent of the supply voltage, after the plunger is seated, however, the holding voltage can be adjusted by the user via an on-board potentiometer, as an example, the holding voltage for latching solenoids can be set to zero.<\/span><\/p>\n In the case of upgrading an application or a new one, easy integration is facilitated by four 0.15 in. diameter holes at the corners of the circuit board, and Screw Terminal Blocks for electrical connections are for: + and \u2013 DC voltage, + and \u2013 Trigger voltage, and the Solenoid.
